We saw parties dancing to The Sound of Explosion looped all over and over. This is a particularly good example of really bad music, but for some reason we didn't feel like this is a bad music at all. To demonstrate this simple fact take one quite notorious example -The Sound of Explosion (circa 2019). But for now we can tell for sure it works like a charm. Why is that? Scientists have yet to find out why this works. On the contrary, bad music is good music. ![]() Yes I must admit that the sin Synthdef was only a minimal example."Good music is bad music. ![]() I'm just wondering because I thought I saw something like a "supersine" synthdef, but I must have imagined it (correct me if I'm wrong). Unfortunately I have not yet implemented the ability to save the loops on your hdd, but I will do so. All the functions to shape the signal (like in the first post) could be removed later. Then you could use the edited (bass) sample as a sample on its own. One idea is that you can use it to create samples in TidalCycles. I am now ready to loop the sound I create with TidalCycles. If signals overlap, then this will immediately produce a muddy I am glad to hear that you liked my live looping stuff! What I also find important is that you should be very careful with effects like reverb or delay (or leave them out for BD/bass). The danger is of course that you then always have to send the bass to a fixed channel. This could be achieved live by using a mixer/DAW for this. Otherwise it has already been mentioned that the separation of overlapping frequencies with an EQ is very important. If I need a bass sound quickly, I use my chromatic sampled bass I created (I uploaded this on my Github page maybe someone find it useful) Ideally, this should even be considered for rhythm elements such as a tom, so that the pitch of the samples does not conflict. Or you have a sample pack where the samples are sorted in the correct pitch. Ideally, the sample should be in c to have the correct note mapping when changing the speed with up. When I create samples, I correct the pitch in my Ableton DAW if necessary. The first is that the samples used must be in tune. I would like to tell what I know about this topic so far and what I personally have made good experiences with.įirst, I should mention that I mainly make sample-based music and try to combine that with instruments. And now superchip is at the top of my todo list -thanks for the tip find a workable looping setup for live bass (I play bass) - did some great live looping stuff in his new moon set which I haven't had time/opportunity to wrap my head around.BespokeSynth which just recently got published on github.freq function in tidal - seems to be undocumented but 17.2M used is extensively in their new moon set.Pilot (the companion to ORCA) has some sounds I like, but it seems non-trivial to get it communicating with tidal so I've shelved that one for now. ![]()

There are some moments where Jimmy's intelligence tends to get the best of him. Of course, this attributes to him just being a kid as he invented the Neutronic Sick Patch solely to skip school. Jimmy also is shown to be lazy, as he often puts off his chores for other things. Usually, when his friends (particularly Cindy) try to warn him about the consequences of his actions or plans, he doesn't listen and does what he wants instead out of pride or because he thinks people are trying to pity him. ![]() Jimmy also tends not to take responsibility for his actions, learn from his mistakes, or even admit when he's wrong. Cindy calls him silver-tongued (in a sarcastic way) in the episode " Love Potion 976/J" as he finds it hard to express his feelings. It takes him hours to explain things the scientific way, and people find his explanations hard to understand and would ask for a shorter and more understandable version of his story instead. However, he does have a few weaknesses one of them is his poor communication skills. Despite his pride and arrogance, he cares deeply for his friends and his family and does everything he can to help them. Jimmy is quite charming when he least tries to be, such as at the party, that he throws at his parents' absence in the episode "Party at Neutron's" at Sheen's insistence. Regardless, he enjoys being a hero, often taking a staunch stand against anyone he believes to be evil. Jimmy has a little bit of pride despite the fact that his inventions usually go wrong and/or cause trouble. Sometimes, Jimmy can be unsympathetic to other people's feelings and can come off as a smart-alec or a nerd. Jimmy has shown to be quite irritable around most people, mainly his friends, and thinking he's above it all. Jimmy is a very nice guy, although sometimes he can be a bit arrogant and a know-it-all. In the third season, however, he seems to stop Brain Blasting and comes up with ideas right away, with " Fundemonium" being the only episode that season to use the "Brain Blast!" sequence. Jimmy will then shout, "Brain Blast!", and arrive at the solution for whatever danger he has landed himself, his friends, or his town in. In the moment of crisis, he will urge his brain by saying, "Think, think, think!", after which the camera enters inside Jimmy's ear (which humorously contains a signboard stating 'EARWAX MUSEUM' in the movie) and goes into his brain to observe its inner workings as well, as to relive a scene from the early part of the episode. They do put him in exciting adventures though, and make life more interesting. He designs his wild inventions to help him deal with bothersome chores, but they often end up causing a bigger problem. This usually leads Jimmy causing accidental trouble to Retroville. This brain, a source of constant comment, allows him to invent devices that accomplish even the impossible. In many episodes, his classmates are angered because he is so smart and keeps outdoing them in anything math and science-related. ![]() Jimmy is a very intelligent kid, having an impossible I.Q. When he goes to sleep, he wears a gray pajama shirt and red velvet pajama pants. A picture of him in this outfit can be seen several times in the show. In the pilot, he wore a red and white striped shirt instead of his trademark red one. He also wears his light-blue lab coat with the same neutron symbol on the back (and sometimes his welding mask) during his course of lab work. His undergarments consist of red-orange plaid boxers and grey boxer briefs in the movie. In the shorts and the films, he wore purple-blue shorts and brown loafers, but for the series proper, he switched to denim blue jeans and a pair of grey and white Converse-style sneakers. Jimmy's wardrobe consists almost exclusively of red T-shirts that sport his trademark symbol of a yellow atom. He is often teased because he is shorter than most boys of his age, though sometimes he appears to be the same height as his friends. He has fair skin, a disproportionately large forehead, blue eyes, and brown hair in a swirly cowlick. ![]() Jimmy's Official 2D design as depicted in the books. Appearance Genius aside, Jimmy is your typical kid: He takes his parents for granted (until he needs them), enjoys hanging out with his pals Carl and Sheen, and is in constant competition (or is it infatuation?) with Cindy Vortex, the smartest girl in Retroville. He thinks anything can be solved with a mathematical equation or a new invention, built his own robot dog, Goddard, and uses his best friend Carl as a guinea pig for his experiments. It is also useful when you’re learning how to use a new prototyping tool: The ones with a familiar interface and a familiar set of tools will probably be easier to learn than ones that are new in every aspect. This is what we call “knowledge transfer”: applying previously acquired knowledge to a new situation. The most effective methods of learning take advantage of previous knowledge, so that we don’t have to start from scratch. It all depends on your current priorities, so let’s start there. There are other, more objective means of choosing one. Luckily for you, you don’t need a sixth sense or any other superpowers in order to choose a prototyping tool. I guess after a while, I have developed a kind of sixth sense for design - an ability to understand (or, at least, believe - I’m not Superman, after all) whether a given tool is worth trying just by giving it a quick look. Honestly, I don’t feel capable of giving a straight answer, because, as with choosing a pair of running shoes, the “best” often depends on your needs at that particular moment and on what outcome you want to achieve. Perhaps it’s because of this situation that, quite often, after having presented at a conference or taught a class, some of the attendees would ask for my advice, wanting to know which is the best tool out there. ![]() Gradually, as I added more and more items to the list, it got out of control - a reliable sign that too many solutions exist. In a desperate attempt to become more conscious about each prototyping tool’s features and characteristics, and to better decide which to try next, I started to compile a short list of prototyping tools. Nowadays, apps are being released every day, and it’s kind of difficult to give them all a proper try. In the beginning, a few years ago, I think it was easier than it is now to decide whether a new tool was useful. I’ve always wanted to stay up to date on the latest design and prototyping tools, testing them shortly after they launch, just to see if any of them might improve my workflow and enable me to achieve better results. Spoiler alert: There is no “best” because it all depends on what you need at the moment! This article presents some insights into what to consider when you need to pick up a prototyping solution. When it comes to creating prototypes, so many tools and methods are out there that choosing one is no easy task. |
